Updated Audi Q4 e-tron range announced

With more performance, a longer range, and improved efficiency, here’s what to expect from Audi’s mid-size SUV

Audi has revealed its revamped Q4 e-tron SUV range, headlined by upgrades to improve performance and efficiency, in addition to new safety and technology features. This should help it to continue to bring the fight to rivals like the Skoda Enyaq and Volkswagen ID.4.

An all-new rear-mounted electric motor – with improved thermal management for better efficiency – is now fitted. The technology allows the powertrain’s temperatures to remain stable in a wider range of conditions, which should also lead to better performance.

The powertrain now produces an estimated 282bhp in the Q4 45 e-tron models, delivering a 0-62mph time of 6.7 seconds. In the range-topping Q4 55 e-tron variants, that figure is cut to just 5.4 seconds courtesy of a power jump to 335bhp. Audi has also stated that all Q4 models will be limited to a top speed of 112mph.

To support the performance increase, the Q4 has also been given a new suspension setup, which places a higher precedence on comfort and stability. If sport mode is engaged, the body lowers by 15 millimetres for more responsive steering and sharper handling, according to the maker.

The new Q4 e-tron gets a 77kWh battery pack, which helps it to achieve a claimed maximum range of 339 miles. It also features more efficient cell chemistry to bring the 10-80% charge time down to as low as 28 minutes depending on the model. Its range and efficiency were some of the main reasons why the outgoing model is placed on our list of top 10 best electric SUVs of 2023.

The Q4 e-tron’s route planner will also suggest the best high-performance charging stations on any given route before setting off, and if accepted, the Q4 will also activate its battery pre-conditioning on said routes to optimise efficiency. Once charging, the Q4 will then automatically turn on thermal conditioning to ensure the quickest possible charge time is met.

The new Q4 will also receive minor tech improvements over its predecessor, including ‘Assisted lane changes’ which will work in tandem with the adaptive cruise control to help drivers change lanes safely. It will form a part of Audi’s ‘Technology Pack Pro’, and can be activated using the Audi Multi Media Interface.
